Yummy Mummy!

Cat_brownies And I don't mean me!!  ;)

A week or so ago, I was perusing a list of Mom-owned companies in and around Boston and came across Yummy Mummy Brownies.  Since I'm still trying to shed a few more of those baby pounds, it didn't occur to me to order brownies but I was curious about the concept.  Homemade brownies online?  During my "research", I checked out the Apparel section and found the cutest toddler tees - I especially loved one that read "Got Chocolate?" for my 2 year old who inherently does love chocolate (bad mommy!!).

I ordered the exceptionally well priced tee and a few hours later received a confirmation from Melissa, owner and baker extraordinaire, regarding my order.  The brand of tee used to make the one I ordered was out of stock, would I mind a different brand and a few brownies to make up for the difference?

Not only did I not mind, I was SUPER excited to taste test what looked on the site like a scrumptious treat!  And one made by a Yummy Mummy, just like me !! ;)  Within days, the package arrived, all beautifully boxed.  The tee was too perfect for Alex, my chocolate-addict-in-training.  And the brownies were perfect too!  A mix of all different kinds, Melissa packed me a treat that I just didn't want to share!

Ever watch The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch?  As part of the show, a new entrepreneur introduces their business concept, details and name and a panel of judges bids it either a big idea or a bad idea.  Well, no business guru myself, even I think this panel would rate Melissa's business name, Yummy Mummy Brownies, as catchy and smart.

This Yummy Mummy says CHECK IT OUT!!

Not sure what to think?

More Ferber news.  I can't wait to stop blogging about this stuff and be done but in the interim:

Nights #4 & #5 showed promise.  After taking a little longer to fall asleep initially (about 20minutes) on night #4, Sabrina woke briefly around 10pm, and fell asleep after a couple of minutes and a re-swaddle.  She skipped her 11:30 wake-up and feeding so I was not surprised when at 3am she cried out.  After a bit of crying, Mike and I decided a feeding was appropriate since she skipped the 11:30.  So, I fed her and put her down awake.  After a mix of fussing/crying for 45 minutes, she fell asleep until 7:30am.

But now we have thrown a new element into the mix - good ole TEETHING.  We knew she was teething but I guess yesterday was pretty painful.  She was putting any and everything in her sore little mouth including her hands which are red from biting.  So she woke up around 11pm, I gave her Motrin and some milk, and it took her till 12:30 to get back to sleep.  Next arousal was at 5am, more milk, and this time a cuddly sleep in mommy & daddy's bed.

Am I to throw all this work out and re-pacify to until teething subsides?  In like A YEAR??  What to do??

Ferber Nights #2 & #3

This is not as easy as I'd hoped.  Then again, I'm not sure I ever thought this would be easy considering I was too chicken to ever do it with Alex.

Good news: Sabrina is falling asleep perfectly without her pacifier.

Bad news: She wakes up during the night and can outcry Heather mills after being called bad names.

What's a mom to do?

Night #2 - She fell asleep quite easily.  Woke at 11:30 to eat and went back down quickly.  Woke at 2:30 and cried until 4:30 - one of the worst experiences ever.  As I muttered and cursed (mostly directed at my sleeping husband), I also wore out the wood between our room and hers.  Finally, I gave in and paci'd her after a LONG two hours.  A day of feeling like a failure ensued.  Not to mention, exhaustion.

I will mention, all the while, naps are going wonderfully.  Three or 4 minutes and she's asleep.

Night #3 - Again, asleep within minutes.  Again, woke at 11:30 to drink milk.  And again, to my dismay, she woke at 4am.  Until 6am.  At which time I took her out, gave her a bottle as she fell asleep on it.  She then slept until 9:30am.

Woe is me.

And yet, I soldier on as I am certain that in the not so distant future (like maybe tonight?), Dr. Ferber will earn his stripes in this house as the solution to many, many nights of sleeplessness.

Visit again for an update!

Update - Ferber

Last night was NOT BAD!!!  I put baby Delicious down with lots of hugs and kisses, but no pacifier, around 6:15pm.  She cried off and on for around 45 minutes and fell asleep.  At one point I went in to check on her and she stopped crying and smiled up at me.  Oy, so cute.

She woke a couple of times but nothing serious.  Nap time today was equally painless.  Here's hoping tonight will be even better.

Dr. Ferber - Revisited

I thought we were going to get lucky this time. I thought  for sure my Dr. Ferber book would end up in the donation box sooner rather than later.  Boy, was I wrong.

The baby that started out being the world's finest sleeper has taken a turn for the worse.  It started a few weeks ago when we figured out she no longer needed night feedings.  She was drinking a couple of ounces at best and going back to sleep.  Slowly, we fazed them out.  Only to be replaced with night wakings.  Times five.

It used to be she'd wake at 11om and wake again around 3am, go back to sleep immediately, and truly we were in sleep debt of less than 30 minutes a night.  Now she's waking up every hour, sometimes more.  The only thing I can attribute to the wakings is the pacifier, which falls once she is asleep.  So as of tonight, no more pacifier.  I expect there will be tears.

But hopefully not too many?

At 5 months old, some would argue that my beautiful little girl (sniff sniff)  is too young for Ferber which involves leaving her to cry and going in at intervals to let her know we're still here.  I think it's just right.  But I'll let you know tomorrow.

Wish me luck.
