The Rockettes Radio City Christmas Spectacular Hits Boston

  

For most people, the word "Rockettes" conjures up images of legs.  Scissor-like kicks in perfect unison, by perfect looking women, with perfect legs.

But after having my first Rockettes experience, let me tell you, it is SOOO much more than that.

Typically synonymous with a premiere New York City attraction, the famous Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring The Rockettes also has a National tour and it's here in Boston until December 29th, 2010.  And if you're thinking it's a dance show with lots of legs, you're wrong.  Sure the famous kicks top off almost every number, but the Christmas Spectacular includes a spirit lifting holiday story, starring Santa and Mrs. Claus, the elves, Santa's Helpers, many of Santa's toys, the very special Wooden Soldiers, and so many other holiday characters.  Each number is so perfectly synchronized, the visual effects created out of little other than out-of-this-world choreography and outstanding costumes is literally a visual treat from start to finish.

I'm not sure which part was our favorite.  Personally, I adored watching the girls dance in unison.  My kids seemed to love the toys come to life.  We all enjoyed the glittery costumes and beautiful sets.  And though we're Jewish, I particularly enjoyed the serene nativity scene.  Of course, this totally stoked my lifelong desire to be part of the beauty of Christmas.       

Yesterday, I was apprehensive about bringing my kids, aged three and four, to see The Rockettes.  Today,  I can't imagine having seen it without them.  Matter of fact, the entire audience was comprised of nearly every age - from one to 100 - and everyone seemed to be equally impressed.

We were awed.  I can't believe I've gone all my life without having experienced The Rockettes even once.  I can't imagine going many years without seeing them again.
