I saw Sex and the City - The Movie
Despite my initial attitude about running to be first in line to see Sex and the City, I was in the minority when it came to deciding how to spend Saturday night in my girl-cluster. Ok. So, I was 100% alone in wanting to drink Vodka and sit around. So off we went, ten girls, to the mini-theater in Stowe, Vt.
Expecting to be disappointed (the tag line is "Get Carried Away" - ???), I began my journey into Sex by ordering a Cosmo (yup - this theater in butt-feck nowhere serves alcohol!!) and settled in. It didn't take long before I was swept away.
Yes, swept away, dear readers. I couldn't believe it either. Sex and the City had all the elements of a good, no, great chick flick. Romance, comedy, tears, feminine bonding, the fairy-tale. It was all there to the max. And I ate it up.
I'm not going to spoil it but let me just say, I'm satisfied. Carrie and Big decide to tie the knot, finally. Drama ensues. Charlotte is pregnant and still the best friend ever. Samantha, now living in LA with Smith, goes back to her roots. And Miranda has to deal with a marital crisis after Steve strays. (check out the trailer here). But it's not really the story line that was so powerful. It was the palpable strength of the bond between the four women that got me, and my nine girlfriends.
There's a moment near the beginning of the movie when I found myself becoming misty and I thought to myself - what is wrong with me? Hormones? Underlying depression? Exhaustion? Was I that drunk?? But no. It seems I was truly lost in a moment of Sex and the City. I know. Crazy.
At the end of two hours, there was not a dry eye in the house and an unsatisfied movie-goer. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was surrounded by some of my oldest friends. Perhaps it was that I am still sad over some close friendships that are temporarily on hold. But most of all, Sex and the City was a super well-done movie and a very satisfying conclusion to a great series.
